About

Rich Brotherton, owner/proprietor of Ace Recording, has been playing music since age 8, performing since age 11 (first band – The National Friendship Fire Engine Company), and recording since age 12.

He studied Music Theory and Composition at The Colorado College, performing with ensembles ranging from the early music Collegium Musicum to the avant garde New Music Ensemble, plus he performed his way through college with his working bands, the Pete Dawson Band and the Dawsonheirs.

College was followed by two trips to Ireland to soak up the traditional music with a summer spent playing at an Irish pub on Cape Cod in between. Then came several years playing around southern Idaho with musical compatriots John Hansen and Belinda Bowler.

After that he headed for Austin, TX, where he joined the vibrant music scene he has called his home ever since. The list of illustrious musicians Rich has played with in the ensuing years is long and only getting longer. The centerpiece of his career is a 25-year stint with the Robert Earl Keen band, touring, playing, and producing records. Before, after, and during that time, Rich also managed to play with and produce a stellar list of singers, writers and composers around the Texas scene.

Rich can be heard on projects from Willie Nelson to Charley Crockett, from Toni Price to Eliza Gilkyson, and he has helped a who’s who of young songwriters and singers get their projects out into the world with his arranging, playing, producing, recording, mixing and mastering skills.

Now he’s waiting to help you.
